Category 2 Water Damage Restoration in Phoenix: 8 Rooms, 5 Days, 1 Team

When our team at Voda Cleaning & Restoration of Phoenix got the call early on a Saturday morning, we knew it wasn’t going to be a quiet weekend. A Phoenix homeowner woke up to water spreading across the house, soaking carpet, sliding behind baseboards, and pooling on tile. They needed emergency water damage restoration fast. That’s what we do.

The Saturday Morning No Homeowner Wants

Eight rooms hit. Over 1,100 square feet of floor soaked by Category 2 water. That means dirty water that can make people sick if it’s left alone.

The master bedroom, master bathroom, master closet, great room, hall bathroom, child’s bedroom, and child’s closet were all impacted. Water even tracked into the main level common areas.

Our crew arrived by 9:00 AM. First step: a full moisture check. We used meters to map every wet surface, logged air readings, and took baseline numbers on walls and floors in every room. Per IICRC standards, mapping moisture before work begins is key to setting goals and tracking drying.

Here’s what the initial inspection revealed:

Setting Up the Drying System

Speed matters with Category 2 water. The EPA warns that mold can start growing within 24 to 48 hours of water exposure. Our crew moved fast. We pulled standing water from all the carpeted areas and tile floors, then set up the full drying system: 3 commercial dehumidifiers, 17 air movers, and 1 HEPA air scrubber.

Plastic barriers went up in the master bedroom to seal off a drying zone. Floor covers went down on all walkways to keep the rest of the home clean. Every piece of gear was cleaned before coming in, and all 23 pieces got cleaned again when the job was done. For us, that’s just how it’s done.

Selective Demolition Across Six Rooms

By Monday, moisture readings told us which materials could be saved and which had to go. Our crew removed only what was needed across six areas. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Master bedroom, master closet, child’s bedroom, child’s closet: carpet, pad, and baseboard pulled
  • Master bedroom: drywall cut to two feet, wet insulation removed
  • Master bathroom and hall bathroom: vanity removed, baseboard pulled, P-trap taken off, water lines capped
  • Great room: baseboard removed along over 40 linear feet of tile

After demo, every open surface got HEPA vacuumed. Our crew applied antimicrobial spray to all affected framing and subfloors, then wiped down the stud walls by hand. This step matters a lot. Skipping it is how hidden mold problems show up weeks later.

How Did We Know the Home Was Dry?

This is the question every homeowner should ask. Our team checked air conditions and material moisture levels every single day. We don’t guess. We measure.

By day four, drywall that had been at 99% moisture after demo dropped into the teens. Wood sill plates were trending down too. But trending down isn’t the same as dry. We kept the gear running one more day.

On day five, final readings confirmed every moisture point had reached dry standard. Wood sill plates came in between 9% and 14%. Drywall sat between 5% and 7%.

We removed all equipment, gave every affected surface a final HEPA vacuum and clean, and walked the homeowner through the completed work. If you’re curious about water damage restoration costs in Phoenix, we’ve put together a helpful guide.

What Made This Project Unique

Category 2 water is serious. It needs more gear, tighter barriers, and stronger cleaning than a clean water loss. Our crew wore full protective suits and half-face masks with HEPA filters through every phase. The whole job, from the Saturday morning call to signed sign-off, took five days.

That’s the bar our IICRC-certified team holds on every water and storm damage project in the Phoenix area. Want to learn more about costs for related services? Check out our guides on mold remediation in Paradise Valley and carpet cleaning in Chandler.
