Mold is a Growing Concern After Chantal Flooding
In the aftermath of Tropical Depression Chantal, central North Carolina is facing more than just cleanup, it’s dealing with a growing mold threat. Heavy rains and flash flooding impacted homes and businesses across the Triangle area, leaving behind moisture that now poses serious risks.
Even after visible water has receded, damp conditions remain, especially in walls, flooring, and hard-to-reach areas. These environments are ideal for mold growth, which can begin within just 24 to 48 hours. If not addressed quickly, mold can spread rapidly and lead to long-term structural damage and health concerns.
Voda Cleaning & Restoration’s own Oliver George spoke with CBS17 News about the challenges local property owners are now facing. He explained that crews are already seeing an increase in mold cases and emphasized the urgency of early intervention to prevent further damage.
Business owners like Amal Zonca, whose Chapel Hill storefront was flooded, are taking proactive steps by removing walls and flooring to reduce the risk. Voda encourages all affected homeowners and businesses to take similar action before problems escalate.
