Carpet, Upholstery, Area Rug & Tile Cleaning in Muskego, WI Case Study
Project Overview
A homeowner in Muskego, Wisconsin contacted Voda Cleaning & Restoration of Brookfield Waukesha for a comprehensive interior surface cleaning project involving multiple flooring and fabric surfaces throughout the home. The project’s scope required professional carpet cleaning with a post-application of soil protectant, specialized upholstery cleaning for a synthetic fiber chair, cleaning of a large area rug, and a deep cleaning of tile and grout lines followed by a protective sealing treatment.
The property, a single-family residential home, had tile and grout that had never received professional service, leading to significant discoloration. The area rug had experienced significant fiber dulling and embedded soil accumulation over time.

Initial Assessment and Site Conditions
Upon arrival at the Muskego home, our technicians initiated a comprehensive walkthrough. This inspection is a critical first step to evaluate material composition, document the severity of soil impaction in different areas, and map out the precise cleaning methodologies required for each distinct surface type.
Carpet Inspection
The home’s carpeting exhibited moderate to heavy soiling in primary traffic lanes. We documented significant fiber compression, a direct result of repeated foot traffic compacting the pile. This matting was most apparent in hallways and the transitions between rooms. Embedded particulate was ground into the fiber base.
Upholstery Inspection
The upholstered chair, identified as being made from durable synthetic fibers, showed visible soil buildup from daily residential use. A low-moisture approach was deemed necessary to break down and extract these soils without risking over-saturation of the fabric or underlying cushion.
Tile & Grout Inspection
Customer indicated that the tile had never been professionally cleaned. The tile and grout surfaces showed visible discoloration and soil accumulation consistent with grout lines that had never undergone professional extraction cleaning. Surface buildup within the grout joints required high-pressure cleaning and extraction to effectively remove embedded debris and restore a more uniform appearance.
Area Rug Inspection
The area rug displayed significant dulling from embedded soil and long-term use. According to the homeowner, the rug had not appeared fully restored in many years and required a more aggressive restorative cleaning approach to improve fiber appearance and texture.
Equipment & Technology Used
Specialized Cleaning Equipment and Surface Restoration Tools Used During the Project
Truck-Mounted Carpet Cleaning System
The primary carpet and surface cleaning system utilized during the project was a professional truck-mounted hot water extraction unit designed to generate consistent high-temperature water, controlled cleaning pressure, and powerful vacuum recovery. Compared to portable equipment, truck-mounted systems provide greater heat stability, stronger extraction performance, and improved soil removal capabilities for heavily impacted carpet and upholstery surfaces. The system is designed to help remove embedded soils, oils, debris, and cleaning residues while minimizing excess moisture and supporting faster drying times after cleaning.
Injection Sprayer System
An injection sprayer system was used to mix concentrated cleaning solutions with water on demand using pressure generated from the truck-mounted system. This application method allows technicians to apply controlled amounts of cleaning solution evenly across affected surfaces while maintaining proper dilution ratios during treatment.
Hydro-Force Gekko SX-7 Tile & Grout Cleaning Tool
Tile and grout surfaces were cleaned using the Hydro-Force Gekko SX-7, a high-pressure hard surface cleaning tool designed for detailed grout and tile extraction cleaning. The rotating jet bar and specialized extraction head allow technicians to clean close to walls, under toe kicks, and within grout lines while simultaneously recovering loosened soil and moisture during the cleaning process.
Eco-Friendly Cleaning Solutions
The project utilized soap-free, eco-friendly cleaning solutions designed to break down grease, oils, and embedded soils without leaving behind sticky residues commonly associated with rapid re-soiling. These cleaning agents are formulated to be odor-free and safe for residential environments, including homes with children and pets.
Upholstery Cleaning Tool
A specialized handheld upholstery extraction tool was used to clean the synthetic fiber chair. Upholstery tools allow technicians to safely control moisture application and extraction during fabric cleaning to help prevent over-wetting while effectively removing embedded soils from upholstered surfaces.
Brush Pro Counter-Rotating Brush Machine
The Brush Pro CRB machine was utilized to provide deep agitation and fiber separation throughout heavily impacted carpeted areas and rug surfaces. Counter-rotating brush systems help lift embedded particulate matter, distribute cleaning agents evenly, and restore matted carpet fibers prior to extraction cleaning.
Carpet Rake
A professional carpet rake was used during both pre-cleaning and finishing stages to lift carpet fibers, loosen embedded debris, and restore pile alignment following extraction. Raking also assists with airflow and promotes more uniform drying conditions after cleaning.

Our Process
Multi-Surface Cleaning and Restoration Process
Surface Inspection and Planning
The technicians began with a full inspection of all carpeted areas, upholstered furniture, tile surfaces, and rugs to identify material types, soil conditions, and areas requiring additional agitation or restorative treatment.
Cleaning methods and equipment selections were adjusted based on the condition and construction of each individual surface.
Carpet and Area Rug Pretreatment
Preconditioning solutions were applied to the carpet and area rug surfaces to help suspend embedded soils, oils, and particulate buildup prior to extraction cleaning. The Brush Pro CRB machine and carpet rake were used to agitate fibers, distribute cleaning agents, and lift impacted traffic lane areas before hot water extraction began.
Hot Water Extraction Cleaning
Using the truck-mounted extraction system, technicians performed controlled hot water extraction across all carpeted areas and rugs. High-temperature water combined with strong vacuum recovery helped remove suspended soils, residues, and debris from deep within the carpet fibers.
Multiple extraction passes were completed in heavily impacted areas to improve soil removal and restore fiber appearance.
Synthetic Fiber Chair Upholstery Cleaning
The upholstered synthetic fiber chair was cleaned using a specialized handheld upholstery extraction tool designed for controlled moisture application and recovery. Technicians carefully cleaned the fabric surfaces to remove embedded soils, oils, and accumulated debris while minimizing over-saturation of the upholstery materials.
Tile & Grout Cleaning and Sealing
Tile and grout surfaces were cleaned using the Hydro-Force Gekko SX-7 high-pressure cleaning tool. Pressurized cleaning combined with immediate extraction helped remove embedded soils and discoloration from grout lines and textured tile surfaces.
Following cleaning, a grout sealant was applied to help protect the cleaned surfaces and reduce future soil absorption within the grout lines.
Soil Protectant Application and Final Grooming
Following cleaning, soil protectant treatments were applied to both the carpeting and upholstered chair to help reduce future soil adhesion and support ongoing maintenance.
The carpet rake was then used for final grooming to align carpet fibers, improve visual appearance, and support even drying conditions throughout the cleaned areas.
